Social media personality ‘Candy Wow’ remanded on assault charge,Claims Irish Nationality"
Popular social media personality Candy Wow, whose real name is Keresia Brown, was remanded in custody today after appearing before the St. Catherine Parish Court on a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm.
The charge stems from an alleged attack on a woman at her stall in Old Harbour on April 13. According to police reports, the complainant was conducting business when she was reportedly assaulted by Brown. A report was filed, leading to Brown’s arrest and subsequent charge.
In court today, Brown pleaded not guilty and informed Parish Judge Yvette Wentworth-Miller that she does not have legal representation. She was remanded until May 16 to secure a lawyer.
Meanwhile, questions surrounding Brown’s nationality have prompted involvement from the Passport, Immigration & Citizenship Agency (PICA). The court was told that Brown claims she is not Jamaican and has identified herself as an Irish national, reportedly operating under multiple names and stating that she changed her name via deed poll.
A PICA representative told the court a thorough investigation will be carried out to verify her citizenship status.
